PeerBloc is a peer-to-peer social media platform that lets you connect, share, and communicate with people — either nearby via Bluetooth/WiFi or across the world via encrypted WebRTC relay. Your content stays on your device and is shared only with the people you choose. No central servers ever store your data.

PeerBloc uses Apple's MultipeerConnectivity framework to create direct encrypted connections between devices via Bluetooth and WiFi. When you're in the same room as your peers, data flows directly between phones — no internet required. Like passing a note directly to someone instead of handing it to a middleman.

When you're not in the same room, PeerBloc uses WebRTC to create encrypted device-to-device tunnels over the internet. Think of it like BitTorrent but for social data. Our signaling server only brokers the connection using public key hashes from your QR exchange — it never sees, stores, or has access to your actual content. Once the tunnel is established, data flows directly between devices.

The relay server never sees your data. It only handles encrypted handshakes and public key hashes to help your devices find each other. Once the WebRTC tunnel is established, the server is out of the loop entirely. This is zero-knowledge architecture — we architecturally cannot access your content even if we wanted to.

Cloud Vault is an optional premium feature for power users who want their posts available 24/7, even when their phone is off. You connect your own AWS S3 bucket, and PeerBloc encrypts all data client-side before uploading it. The bucket stores only encrypted blobs — we never have the decryption keys. When your peers come online, data syncs from your bucket automatically.

Yes. Cloud Vault uses your own AWS S3 bucket, which means you need an AWS account. You're responsible for your own AWS storage costs (typically very low — a few cents per month for most users). This design is intentional: your data stays in infrastructure you control, not ours.

Absolutely. All connections use end-to-end encryption. Local P2P is direct device-to-device. Internet Relay uses encrypted WebRTC tunnels where the signaling server never sees your content. Cloud Vault encrypts everything client-side before upload. We architecturally cannot read your messages, see your photos, or track your activity.

PeerBloc is currently available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) running iOS 17 or later. Android support is in active development — sign up on our download page to get notified when it launches.

Scan someone's QR code to exchange public keys. Once you've exchanged keys, you can connect via local P2P when nearby or via Internet Relay from anywhere in the world. PeerBloc also discovers nearby users automatically via Bluetooth and WiFi.

Your data lives on your device. When you use Internet Relay, data flows through encrypted tunnels but is never stored on our servers. If you enable Cloud Vault, encrypted copies are stored in your own S3 bucket — we never have the keys. You're always in full control.

Yes! PeerBloc's local mesh networking lets you connect with nearby peers over Bluetooth and WiFi — no internet required. Perfect for festivals, travel, or anywhere connectivity is limited. Internet extends your reach via the encrypted WebRTC relay.

PeerBloc offers three tiers: Free with local P2P, basic Internet Relay, and basic themes. Pro ($4.99/mo) adds Cloud Vault (bring your own S3), advanced themes, and custom fonts. Since your data lives on your device, deleting the app removes your data entirely. For a full account reset, go to Settings → Privacy → Delete Account. This wipes your local profile and notifies your peers. If you have Cloud Vault enabled, you can delete your S3 bucket contents from your AWS console. No data lingers on any server because we don't store your data.
