Our Story
Built for people who believe
social media should be personal
We started PeerBloc because we were tired of social media that treats users as products. We knew there had to be a better way.
Our Mission
Social media was supposed to bring us closer together. Instead, it became a machine for harvesting data, manipulating behavior, and generating ad revenue. We believe it doesn't have to be this way.
PeerBloc is our answer: a social media app that puts the "social" back in social media. Direct connections between real people — whether in the same room or across the world. No algorithms deciding what you see. No servers hoarding your data. No ads interrupting your experience.
We're building the social network that should have existed from the start — one that works for people, not against them.
Zero-Knowledge Architecture
Every layer — local P2P, WebRTC relay, Cloud Vault — is designed so we architecturally cannot access your data.
Data Sovereignty
Even with Cloud Vault, your data lives in your infrastructure. We never hold keys, store content, or control access.
BitTorrent-Inspired Design
Decentralized by nature. Peers connect directly, identified by public key hashes — like BitTorrent but for social data.
The PeerBloc Story
PeerBloc was born from a simple observation: every major social media platform makes money by collecting, analyzing, and monetizing user data. We asked ourselves — what if we built a social network where that was architecturally impossible?
By using peer-to-peer technology, we eliminated the need for servers that store your content. No servers means no data to sell. No data to sell means no incentive to spy on users. The business model is simple: build something people love, and let them pay for premium features if they want to.
We started with local connections using Apple's MultipeerConnectivity framework — direct device-to-device communication over Bluetooth and WiFi. But we knew people needed to connect beyond the same room. So we built an Internet Relay using WebRTC: a zero-knowledge signaling server that brokers encrypted device-to-device tunnels without ever seeing the data flowing through them. Like BitTorrent, peers find each other using public key hashes exchanged via QR codes.
For power users who want always-on availability, we created Cloud Vault — connecting your own AWS S3 bucket for encrypted cloud storage. Everything is encrypted client-side before upload, and we never have the decryption keys. Your bucket is just encrypted blob storage in infrastructure you control.
Today, PeerBloc is growing — and we're excited about the future. Android support and more features are on the horizon. But our core principle will never change: your data belongs to you. Even as we add features, user data sovereignty is maintained at every layer.
